There's no question that the U.S. Supreme Court's Monday ruling to place a stay on gay marriages in Utah is causing some confusion. But for those at the heart of the case, this is just one step on a big ladder, and they're not discouraged.

The U.S. Supreme Court put the brakes on same-sex marriage in Utah on Monday, setting up a legal battle in federal appeals court that could eventually wend its way back to the high court.
