Deadline rapidly approaching to avoid looming tax increases

A last-gasp effort Thursday to avoid automatic tax increases and spending cuts got off on the same convulsive, partisan tone that marked congressional attempts to resolve the impasse before lawmakers headed home for Christmas.

The House and Senate still uncompromising as fiscal cliff deadline nears

The Senate is in session, but the House of Representatives is not. It appears that the Congressional delegation is relegated to watching from the sidelines.
