Dueling surveillance rulings stir legal ripples

Opposing court rulings on the National Security Agency's massive phone record surveillance _ one threatening the program and the other supporting it _ are stirring fast legal footwork as both cases start to wind their way through federal appeals courts and possibly to the Supreme Court.

US sending extra combat unit to South Korea

The United States is sending an additional Army combat force of 800 soldiers to South Korea with tanks and armored troop carriers, and pledged Tuesday to continue to modernize its military capability to face any threat posed by North Korea.
