Judges weigh whether to toss terror conviction

A rare full appeals court Monday wrestled with whether it should overturn the conviction of an alleged al-Qaida propagandist, who argues the acts he was convicted for were not considered crimes at the time he committed them.

The Agriculture Department says 524 schools _ out of about 100,000 _ have dropped out of the federally subsidized national school lunch program since the government introduced new standards for healthier foods last year.

EPA urged to update rules on secret email accounts

The Environmental Protection Agency failed to train employees to search secret government email accounts used by senior officials for messages they were required to turn over under public records requests and congressional inquiries, the inspector general said Monday in a new report. It said senior officials who used the accounts said they did not intend to circumvent federal records laws.

Feds grant Texas No Child Left Behind waiver

The U.S. Education Department on Monday excused Texas from the most strenuous requirements of the Bush-era No Child Left Behind law, granting the state a reprieve from some of the standardized testing-based accountability standards it helped pioneer.
