For Obama, world looks far different than expected

U.S. influence is declining in the Middle East as violence and instability rock Arab countries. An ambitious attempt to reset U.S. relations with Russia faltered and failed. Even in Obama-friendly Europe, there's deep skepticism about Washington's government surveillance programs.

Obama meets with faith group leaders

President Barack Obama has met with leaders of faith organizations and civil rights activists at the White House to discuss the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. On the agenda was how current issues of voting rights, education, unemployment and health care are linked to the 1960s fight for civil rights and equality.

Obama awards Medal of Honor to Afghan war veteran

President Barack Obama bestowed the nation's highest military honor, the Medal of Honor, on Army Staff Sgt. Ty Carter on Monday, saluting the veteran of the war in Afghanistan as "the essence of true heroism," one still engaged in a battle against the lingering emotional fallout of war.
