The obscure Abdullah Azzam Brigades, an al-Qaida-linked group, has claimed responsibility for the carnage that killed at least 23 people, including an Iranian diplomat. The attack is one of the worst bombings to target the predominantly Shiite area in southern Beirut. The blasts hit the upscale neighborhood of Janah, a stronghold of the Iranian-backed Shiite Hezbollah group, leaving pools of blood and bodies amid burning cars on the rubble-strewn street.
