COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — The manager of the Idaho State Police's emergency communication program says certification should be required for emergency dispatchers.
Lt. Kevin Haight tells the Coeur D'Alene Press (http://bit.ly/2gly3DK) in a story on Friday that the dispatchers face difficult situations that can make the difference between life and death.
Haight and other key law enforcement officials are seeking an initiative for Idaho lawmakers to mandate certification for 911 and emergency dispatchers.
The initiative will be proposed during the legislative session that starts in January.
Officials are proposing that all dispatchers complete a minimum of 40 hours of training as well as additional training every two years.
