NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Some schools are closed and many roads are impassable after heavy overnight rains deluged parts of Maryland, Virginia and Delaware.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Lyle Alexander said Thursday that 5 to 8 inches of rain have fallen. Most of it was concentrated around Salisbury, Maryland.
Alexander said the tides are higher than usual, exacerbating the flooding. He said the worst should be over, but up to an inch of rain could still fall.
Delmarvanow reported (http://delmarvane.ws/2dhhRzC) that schools in Accomack County, Virginia, are closed as well as the Somerset County schools in Maryland. Several others are operating on delays.
Hundreds lost power in Wicomico County, Maryland. A flash-flood watch is in effect for Sussex County, Delaware.
