CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Wyoming will be holding a summit in Laramie as part of an effort to encourage young people to vote.
The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports (http://bit.ly/2dfkEcm ) that the state will hold its first-ever Youth Voter Summit next week.
Two panels are scheduled for the Oct. 4 event alongside remarks from Gov. Matt Mead and former Olympic wrestler Rulon Gardner. Gardner is a Wyoming native.
One panel will discuss civic education, civic partnership and youth participation. The other focuses on the changing media landscape and its impact on young peoples' perception of politics.
Secretary of State Ed Murray says young voter turnout has been lower than other demographics in recent elections. He says only 10.6 percent of people aged 18-24 voted in the 2014 general election.
