CLOVERDALE, Calif. (AP) — The Latest on wildfires burning in Northern California (all times local):

8 p.m.

Fire crews are making progress against a 2 square-mile blaze burning near The Geysers geothermal facility in Northern California.

Cal Fire says the fire is 45 percent contained Monday night.

The blaze forced the temporary evacuation of one of the 14 plants at the Calpine facility.

Calpine spokesman Brett Kerr says employees went back to the plant, which is now operating.

The cause of the fire burning about 85 miles north of San Francisco is under investigation.

About 90 people in three dozen homes were under evacuation orders or advisories.

5:45 p.m.

Fire officials say 300 homes are being evacuated in the Santa Cruz Mountains as a fast-moving wildfire grows.

Cal Fire Stephanie Stuehler says about 200 firefighters are battling the blaze by land and air, which is also threatening television and radio towers.

The blaze started Monday afternoon on the southern edge of Santa Clara County.

The wildfire burning in steep terrain has charred about 500 acres.

Fire crews are rushing to fight a vegetation fire burning in the Santa Cruz Mountains that has charred about 200 acres and is burning near radio repeater towers and several homes.

Authorities say about 300 homes are threatened.

The Santa Cruz Sentinel reports the blaze was reported Monday afternoon on the southern edge of Santa Clara County.

Authorities say residents in the area evacuating their homes.

A large plume of smoke can be seen from neighboring Monterey County.

Officials say a Northern California wildfire that has charred about 2 square miles is burning dangerously close to The Geysers geothermal facility, forcing the evacuation of one of the plants.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/2dlqUST) that Calpine, which operates the facility, says all employees are accounted for and safe.

The cause of the fire burning about 85 miles north of San Francisco is under investigation.

About 90 people in three dozen homes were under evacuation orders or advisories Monday.

Firefighters battling the blaze in steep terrain braced for another day of temperatures in the high 90s and windy conditions.

The fire is 20 percent contained.

A wildfire that erupted amid hot, dry conditions and gusty winds in Sonoma County north of San Francisco sent residents fleeing from their homes.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection says the blaze in rural Cloverdale has charred about 1,500 acres (607 hectares), or more than 2 square miles (5.2 square kilometers), of timber and dry brush.

Fire spokesman Paul Lowenthal said Sunday that about 90 people in 36 homes were under evacuation orders or advisories, and that the fire was threatening the Geysers geothermal field.

Firefighters battling the blaze in steep terrain braced for another day of temperatures in the high 90s and strong winds on Monday.

The fire is 20 percent contained.
