RENO, Nev. (AP) — A 36-year-old Sparks man who had been hospitalized since he allegedly ran a red light in a double-fatal crash on the east side of Reno more than a week ago has been jailed on suspicion of two counts of driving under the influence causing death.
Reno police say Ricardo Alonso Fuentes was arrested upon his release from a Reno hospital on Wednesday and booked into the Washoe County jail.
Fuentes is accused of crashing into the vehicle in an intersection on Aug. 13, killing 30-year-old Saul Garcia and 29-year-old Janet Gonzalez-Contreras, both of Sparks. Their vehicle ended up on its roof in a field near Mill Street and Rock Boulevard.
Police said shortly after the accident they expected Fuentes would face criminal charges after he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
