MIAMI (AP) — Tropical Storm Gaston is changing little in strength as it moves in the Atlantic.

The storm's maximum sustained winds Wednesday are near 70 mph (110 kph). The U.S. National Hurricane Center says weakening is expected Thursday or Friday.

Gaston is centered about 1,100 miles (1,775 kilometers) west of the Cabo Verde Islands and is moving northwest at 16 mph (26 kph).

The storm is not currently a threat to land.

In the eastern Pacific, a new tropical depression with maximum winds of 35 mph (55kph) formed southwest of Mexico on Wednesday.
