PENFIELD, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a man whose acid-disfigured body was found in the Finger Lakes region of New York was killed inside his home.
Investigators say 50-year-old Craig Rideout was beaten and strangled in the basement of his town house in Penfield last week before his body was dumped in the woods along a road 40 miles southeast of Rochester.
Police say acid had been poured on his face in an attempt to make identification more difficult.
Rideout, a father of seven children, was in divorce proceedings with his estranged wife, Laura. She and two of the couple's adult sons have been charged with tampering with evidence in the case.
Police say Rideout's minivan was found in a park-and-ride lot outside Rochester on Tuesday.
No one has been charged with killing Rideout.
