MIDDLETON, Idaho (AP) — A Middleton day care owner is accusing city employees and the mayor of providing false information on licensing for her facility.
The Idaho Press-Tribune (http://bit.ly/2a22Fs8 ) reports that Marie Anderson, who owns Tot Town Day Care and Preschool, has since filed a tort claim against the city.
According to Anderson, the city repeatedly provided her with incorrect information while trying to open a day care in 2015. Last June, Anderson says a city employee told her that she only needed a business license to open a day care.
However, Anderson says Mayor Darin Taylor visited her home one week before her opening date and told her that the business would be shut down unless she had a conditional use permit.
A long delay in the city processing her permit caused her to miss out on customers, who found day care elsewhere.
Taylor did not return requests for comment.
Anderson's tort claim seeks $140,000 in damages.
