STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) — A Stamford Public Schools employee and former assistant high school basketball coach has been placed on leave amid charges that he tipped off a shooting suspect.
The Advocate reports that Jose Amor was charged Wednesday with hindering prosecution. He is on unpaid administrative leave.
Police say the 28-year-old Amor told one of his athletes that he was under investigation. The athlete is a suspect in a double shooting involving two youths in Stamford on May 28. The student has denied involvement.
Police say phone records show Amor had called the student, telling him to "be prepared for anything."
Amor's lawyer says his client is innocent.
Interim Superintendent James Connelly said Thursday he's appalled at the charges against Amor, who's a tutor at Westhill High School.
