LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — The Arkansas State Police says it will investigate the fatal shooting of a 50-year-old suspect by three sheriff's deputies.

Police said Saturday that the Washington County sheriff requested the agency's involvement after the shooting.

Authorities arrived Friday to find the suspect on a front porch holding a handgun and shotgun.

Officers from several agencies tried to get the man to drop the weapons. Instead, police say, he moved from the porch and began to walk in the street, pointing a gun at the three sheriff's deputies.

Police said the deputies eventually fired at the man.

The state police says the agency will submit its findings to county prosecutors to determine whether the use of deadly force by the officers was consistent with Arkansas laws.
