NAPERVILLE, Ill. (AP) — Officials at North Central College say they are in the process of acquiring Shimer College.
North Central President Troy Hammond tells the Chicago Tribune (http://trib.in/1RybSjL ) that Shimer is "a gem of an institution" and making the small liberal arts school part of private North Central is a unique opportunity.
Shimer President Susan Henking says the move gives Shimer a chance to continue to offer a quality education.
The acquisition needs regulatory approval but is expected to be complete around March. The Shimer Great Books School would become part of North Central by the start of the 2017 fall semester.
Shimer was founded in 1853. It has been located at the Illinois Institute of Technology campus in Chicago since 2006.
