IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) — Idaho Falls officials are looking at leasing the 1,900-seat Civic Auditorium to a nonprofit group that could do a better job promoting it and bringing in more and higher-profile acts.

The Post Register reports (http://bit.ly/1rqVZH1) that a tentative plan calls for the city to pay the Arts Council $65,000 annually for events marketing and management.

City Councilman John Radford says the Civic Auditorium should be a great resource for the city but that's not how it's viewed in the community.

The city council would have to approve of the agreement, which could happen in the next several months. A one-year test run would see how the partnership works.

Officials say the auditorium that opened in 1953 was last refurbished in the 1970s and needs some work.
