RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — A nonprofit which has helped coach teachers and principals across North Carolina and the nation is shutting down.
WRAL in Raleigh reports (http://bit.ly/21hGP38) a spokeswoman for North Carolina New Schools said the organization will close Friday due to "financial issues focused on cash flow." Seventy full-time and two part-time employees were notified Thursday and will be paid through the end of this week.
Group President Tony Habit sent an email announcing that he resigned Wednesday after nearly 13 years.
A message seeking comment from the group wasn't returned Thursday.
The group has received millions of dollars in donations and federal grants since it began in 2003, including nearly $26 million from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and a $15 million grant in 2011 from the U.S. Department of Education.
