IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — University of Iowa officials say the 10-day hunt for an escaped research goat has likely cost the institution less than $10,000 in staff time, business continuity and related expenses.

Stephen Pradarelli with the university tells the Iowa City Press-Citizen (http://icp-c.com/1SoagPK ) that it's the first time anyone recalls the university losing a research animal.

The goat, nicknamed "William the Goat," was captured earlier this week and taken back to a pen at the University Research Park.

The male goat escaped on Jan. 29 while being transferred from a portable carrier to a vehicle. In the 10 days following, there were multiple sightings of the goat in Coralville and North Liberty.

The escape prompted People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
