SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Utah lawmaker wants to ensure that the state is "ready, willing and able" to host the Winter Olympics again should the chance to bid on the event arise.
The Deseret News reports (http://bit.ly/1KcPyQn ) that Republican Senate Majority Whip Stuart Adams introduced legislation Wednesday that encourages state leaders to keep Utah in the running for future games by maintaining a well-positioned stance globally in sports and the Olympic movement.
Utah has considered another bid for the Winter Games since it hosted the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Games, which was one of the few Olympics to make a profit. A state exploratory committee considered putting Utah in the running for 2022 and 2026.
Republican Senate President Wayne Niederhauser supports the bill, saying it would be a "huge opportunity" for Utah.
