BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) — A class of Montana State University students is proposing the university start a free food bank on campus to help feed hungry college students.
The Bozeman Daily Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/1mpGsE3 ) that a sustainable foods capstone class has created a business plan for a proposed "Bobcat Pantry."
Faculty members went before the Associated Students of MSU Senate on Thursday seeking a resolution of support for the pantry, which passed unanimously.
A 2013 survey of nearly 300 MSU students found that 30 percent experienced "food insecurity," meaning that they went without food at least one to three times a month.
Similar pantries have opened at Georgia State, Michigan State and North Carolina State University.
