SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities say a group of kids and a woman fell into an icy pond while visiting a Salt Lake City park.
Firefighters say it began when a 13-year-old girl walked onto an icy pond in Liberty Park Sunday evening. Her brother and cousin, both 11, tried to help her but fell through the ice themselves.
Firefighters say a woman saw the kids struggling and went to help, but she also fell through the ice.
Salt Lake City Fire Department crews found the two boys soaking wet on the shoreline. The teenage girl and the woman were stranded on an island in the middle of the pond.
Firefighters were able to rescue them using an inflatable boat to cross the ice.
Firefighter Brandon Heaney says they are all expected to recover quickly.
