WEST LEBANON, N.H. (AP) — A New Hampshire public library board of trustees has voted to switch a secondary fuel source from a pellet boiler to propane.
The Valley News reports (http://bit.ly/1NY2yV3 ) the Kilton Public Library's board of trustees voted unanimously in September to purchase a propane boiler with $22,000 of the trustee's funds. Its primary fuel source is geothermal heat.
The decision comes after years of problems with maintaining the building's pellet boiler. Lebanon Library Director Sean Fleming says that in the library's first heating season, 2010-2011, the boiler failed 16 times and never ran for two weeks in a row without failing.
The library has removed the pellet system and is waiting for permits from the city to install the propane system. Trustees are working with the city's attorney to seek replacement compensation.
