LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police in Las Vegas are looking for a driver who allegedly hit a 5-year-old girl and apologized before fleeing the scene.
KTNV-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1Oezk9z) that the incident happened Friday around 3:30 p.m. as the child was walking with a 14-year-old boy near Gentle Rain Way and Waterview Drive.
Investigators say the driver struck the girl but did not say if she was in a crosswalk.
But the driver allegedly slowed down and said "I'm sorry" before driving off.
The girl is hospitalized with a substantial leg injury.
Her condition wasn't immediately known Saturday.
Police say this is the first incident they've seen since a new state law stiffening penalties for hit-and-run drivers took effect Thursday.
