CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — The new owner of a ranch that belonged to foundations at the University of Wyoming and Colorado State University says he plans to keep running the cattle operation without making any big changes.

Pine Bluffs businessman Toby Kimzey says the sale of the Y Cross Ranch between Cheyenne and Laramie presented a rare chance to buy a big Wyoming ranch in one piece. He says he will honor a conservation easement that prohibits subdividing the 50,000-acre property.

The University of Wyoming Foundation and Colorado State University Research Foundation had declined to identify who bought the ranch they owned for 18 years. Kimzey confirmed he was the buyer when reached by The Associated Press.

Public records suggest the sale price was at least close to the asking price of $25 million.
