CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — A mental health service in Concord is preparing to launch the state's first mobile crisis unit response program.
The Concord Monitor reports (http://bit.ly/1NREGGt ) Riverbend Community Mental Health Services, a nonprofit, is slated to launch its live phone answering service and its field response on Tuesday.
The program is intended to help diffuse mental health emergencies in the community to avoid hospitalization. It was mandated as part of the state's settlement in a class-action lawsuit several years ago alleging that the state was needlessly institutionalizing people with mental illnesses.
The settlement required the state to set up reforms that would grow its system of community-based mental health supports.
The program's ultimate goal is to help people manage their mental health over the long-term.
