SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — A former northwestern Indiana attorney who admitted stealing a child's more than $600,000 medical malpractice settlement and bilking other clients has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Fifty-three-year-old Clark Holesinger apologized Thursday before a federal judge in South Bend imposed the 10-year sentence and ordered him to pay restitution of more than $986,000 to his victims.

The former Valparaiso attorney had pleaded guilty in April to wire fraud and money laundering charges.

Prosecutors say Holesinger stole more than $2 million, but has already settled with businesses that fell victim to his actions.

The (Munster) Times reports (http://bit.ly/1O02lSV ) that the mother of a now 8-year-old child who was disabled at birth and lost more than $612,000 from a medical malpractice settlement to Holesinger called him "a thief and a liar."
