ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Construction is expected to begin this fall on an apartment complex designed to provide reasonably priced housing for teachers in Asheville.
The Asheville Citizen-Times reported (http://avlne.ws/1GV40nn) that crews should begin work in October on the Williams-Baldwin Teacher campus.
The 24-unit apartment complex is a project of Asheville City Schools, Buncombe County Schools, Eblen Charities' Center for Social Enterprise, Buncombe County and the State Employees' Credit Union Foundation.
It's named for UNC basketball coach Roy Williams and his wife, Wanda, both of whom taught in Buncombe County. It's also named for Roy Eugene Baldwin and Rosa Lee Baldwin, teachers who affected the Williamses' lives.
The project will feature 1,100-square-foot, two-bedroom, two-bath apartments that rent for about $900 a month. The apartments are expected to open for the 2016-2017 school year.
