BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A Boise man accused of what police describe as a road-rage shooting death has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.

Shawn Fisher told a judge Wednesday that he purposely aimed a handgun at Matthew Mohler-Kerns and fired, but that he did not intend to kill him, the Idaho Statesman reported (http://bit.ly/1LVLnUG ).

Fisher faces a minimum of 10 years in prison when he is sentenced Sept. 30.

Boise police say Fisher rammed into a car he saw illegally parked at an apartment complex in February 2013. He fired a bullet into the driver's side door when the car owner returned, barely missing him.

Fisher was in traffic minutes later and said in court that he shot and killed Mohler-Kerns, who was driving home from a steakhouse where he worked as a manager.

Shortly after, police got a call from Fisher's stepmother and neighbors reporting Fisher was banging on doors and yelling to be let in.

Police say Fisher was armed and hiding behind a daycare center when they found him. A police dog was sent in and Fisher was arrested.

Officers say Fisher told them a secret society contacted him through his video game system and that he felt threatened.

A judge committed Fisher to a prison mental health program in October 2013 after finding he was mentally ill. He was determined to be competent to stand trial a few months later.
