LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities say a norovirus outbreak caused an upscale Long Beach restaurant to temporarily shut down.
The Los Angeles Times reports (http://lat.ms/1ESfg2K ) manager of the city's Environmental Health Bureau, Nelson Kerr, says The Sky Room temporarily closed for four days starting May 22 in order to sanitize the restaurant and bar.
Kerr says 18 patrons and three employees had experienced nausea, abdominal pain and a low fever. Laboratory tests have confirmed that three cases are norovirus and the rest have been determined probable cases.
Norovirus causes between 19 million to 21 million illnesses each year and about 570 to 800 deaths.
Kerr says those who feel ill from the Sky Room outbreak have all recovered and the restaurant is now safe.
The Sky Room could not be reached for comment.
