BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Public school students in Buffalo are being encouraged to take a peace pledge as part of efforts to make the city safer.
US. Attorney William Hochul (HOH'-kuhl), Associate Superintendent Will Keresztes and Police Chief Kim Beaty joined members of the Stop the Violence Coalition at Riverside High School Thursday. Students there produced and sold buttons with messages of non-violence, with proceeds going to the Stop the Violence Coalition.
In other schools, students in grades kindergarten through high school were encouraged to sign a "Peace Builder's Pledge."
Hochul praised students for promising to avoid guns, drugs and bullying and to practice peace and tolerance.
