OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — An Omaha teacher accused of having sex with a 14-year-old student has been given jail time and probation.
The Omaha World-Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1GG2iuN ) that Ty Warner was sentenced on Wednesday to two months in jail and 30 months of probation. Warner pleaded no contest and was convicted of a felony, tampering with evidence, after prosecutors dropped two counts of child sexual assault. Authorities say Warner tried to destroy a note between him and the girl.
Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine says prosecutors dropped the charges because the girl didn't want to testify.
Warner was put on paid administrative leave on Nov. 25, 2013, from his position at Alpha School, an alternative school for students with behavioral or emotional conditions. He'd been teaching at the school for five years.
