BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — Boulder High students are petitioning to have their teacher's advanced placement assignment reinstated after they believe he was demoted for teaching during statewide testing sessions contrary to district policy.
The Daily Camera of Boulder reports (http://bit.ly/1FApZT6 ) that students say Jim Vacca is being punished for holding class when all of his students opted out of the PARCC language arts and math tests. Vacca was told in April he could no longer teach AP classes.
District officials declined to comment but in an email provided by Vacca, interim Boulder High Principal Terry Gillach says the reasons for the reassignment include Vacca's lack of adherence to the AP curriculum. In the email Gillach also said Vacca's students scored lower on AP exams than other AP language arts students at the school.
