SEYMOUR, Ind. (AP) — Free HIV testing will be offered in two Indiana counties following an outbreak that has infected at least 160 people.
The (Seymour) Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1F04sQe ) the Jackson County Health Department will offer free weekly HIV testing clinics starting Tuesday and running through June 16. A program of Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital Community Health, called Positive Link, will offer free testing in Terre Haute. That testing will be available on the first and second Fridays of each month at one of two Walgreens locations.
The moves come amid the worst HIV outbreak in state history. Health officials say most of the 160 positive cases are tied to Scott County and stem from needle sharing among drug users injecting a liquid form of the painkiller Opana.
