SALEM, Utah (AP) — Health and school officials are warning parents that a case of whooping cough has been confirmed at Salem Hills High School in central Utah.
KSL-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1GEdngL) letters were sent to parents asking that they keep sick kids home and see their health practitioner in the event symptoms present themselves. Children who are exempt from vaccinations will be kept home for a while as well.
The diagnosed teen had close contact with two other students, but tests came back negative for both. Utah County Health spokesman Lance Madigan and Nebo School District spokeswoman Lana Hiskey encouraged parents to vaccinate "so that we can keep our children safe."
