OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma City schools Superintendent Rob Neu says the district's code of conduct committee will be revamped to correct failings in the administration of discipline in the district.
Neu said Tuesday that the existing committee will be modified to reduce the number of offenses that result in suspension and the length of suspension per infraction. He said there will also be pre-intervention strategies required before a student can be suspended.
Neu's announcement comes a day after a report showed the Oklahoma City district suspends minority students at a higher rate than white students. The Oklahoman reported (http://bit.ly/1yPeLKO ) that the review also found punishment was handed out inconsistently for similar misbehavior by students and that some schools appear to over-refer students to alternative education programs.
