ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — A new policy for Ann Arbor Public Schools would give the superintendent authority to enact a ban on weapons such as guns.
The Ann Arbor News reports the school board on Wednesday discussed three new policies to prohibit visitors from carrying guns into schools. The board votes April 15.
School board President Deb Mexicotte says the prohibition wouldn't apply to law enforcement officials.
A Michigan resident with a concealed pistol license may legally openly carry a gun into a school. Joshua Wade openly carried a gun into Pioneer High School during a choir concert and told the board it has no right to ban guns.
Meanwhile, The Argus-Press of Owosso reports the school district for the Durand area is considering a policy to allow open carry with a police escort.
