BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A bill requiring parental permission for teens to use tanning beds faces just one more hurdle before making it to the governor's desk, advancing farther than a more restrictive effort attempted in 2012.
The Senate Health and Welfare Committee approved the legislation 6-1 on Thursday.
The proposed measure would require parental permission for children ages 14 to 17 to use a tanning bed. Children under 14 would be banned completely.
Republican Sen. Sheryl Nuxoll voted no, saying that she felt the bill restricted parental rights.
In 2012, the same Senate committee killed a similar bill that would have banned tanning for children under 16 .
The bill now goes to the full Senate after clearing the House on a 47-23 vote.
