SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Recorded testimony shows a Utah doctor accused of killing his ex-wife once said the woman sneaked into his garage the night before her 2011 death.

Prosecutors played pediatrician John Brickman Wall's taped testimony Tuesday during his murder trial in Salt Lake City.

In the 2013 recording, Wall claims ex-wife Uta von Schwedler may have been trying to recover an old bag of coffee she laced with drugs that caused his second wife to miscarry twice. He says von Schwedler hit him after he found her.

The 49-year-old cancer researcher was found drowned in her bathtub with knife wounds and an overdose of Xanax in her system.

Prosecutors say the 51-year-old Wall killed her during a bitter custody battle, but recorded police interviews show he denied any involvement under intense questioning from detectives.
