DETROIT (AP) — Police say a 44-year-old man was killed and five other people were wounded when gunfire erupted during a party at a Detroit social hall.

The shooting happened about 4 a.m. Sunday at the Chalmers Community Hall on the city's east side.

WXYZ-TV reports that the Knights of the Round Table Van and Truck Club rented the hall for a celebration.

Police spokesman Officer Aram Madeira tells the Detroit Free Press that those wounded included a 44-year-old woman who was working as a security guard at a neighboring church. The other victims were two women ages 36 and 40, and two men ages 27 and 36.

Madeira tells The Detroit News that police have three men in custody and are trying to learn the circumstances of the shooting.
