MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — State health officials say no one in Alabama has contracted measles linked to the outbreak in California.
But they are using the outbreak to remind parents of the importance of vaccinating their children.
The president of the Alabama Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Dr. Michael Ramsey, says pediatricians are concerned about the risk of a measles outbreak. They are supporting efforts by the state Department of Public Health to emphasize the need for children to be vaccinated.
Dr. Karen Landers of the health department says Alabama has a high vaccination rate. A survey completed last year found that more than 92 percent of Alabama kindergarteners were vaccinated.
