MEADVILLE, Pa. (AP) — In a story Jan. 28 about a federal investigation of Allegheny College's handling of sexual violence complaints, The Associated Press reported erroneously which agency is investigating. The U.S. Department of Education is investigating through its Office of Civil Rights, not the Department of Justice.

A corrected version of the story is below:

Education Dept. investigating Allegheny College sex response

Justice Department investigating Allegheny College response to report of sexual violence

MEADVILLE, Pa. (AP) — Allegheny College says it's cooperating with a U.S. Department of Education investigation that the school's response to sexual violence or harassment wasn't sufficient.

President James Mullen tells the Erie Times-News (http://bit.ly/1zz0Rw) the university is cooperating with the probe, one of more than 90 the Education Department has launched in recent months at colleges and universities.

The school hasn't been given information about the incident, including when it happened.

Under the law, students who believe a school has not properly handled or responded to a report of sexual violence or harassment can complain to the department's Office of Civil Rights within 180 days.

The school's Title IX coordinator says the school was notified of the investigation Dec. 5 and hopes to provide records on sexual complaints and policies dating to 2012 by March.
