DETROIT (AP) — Federal health officials say about 300,000 Michigan residents have signed up for health care through the federal exchange, most with financial help.
U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell told reporters Tuesday that the 299,750 sign-ups as of Jan. 16 represent those who have selected a health plan or re-enrolled, not paid. Of those, 33 percent enrolled for the first time.
More than 272,000 people in the state had signed up during the first round. According to federal data at that time, there were about 250,000 eligible state residents who hadn't signed up.
Of the roughly 300,000 enrolled, 88 percent have picked a plan with financial help.
The second enrollment period deadline is Feb. 15.
Total enrollment in the 37 states served by HealthCare.gov is about 7.1 million people.
