COLUMBUS, Miss. (AP) — The Lowndes County School District board will meet Monday to discuss a proposed bond issue.
A Feb. 3 referendum is planned on the bond issue, but the district has not stated publicly what construction projects will be included or how much they will cost.
In late August, voters rejected a $47 million bond proposal to build a new vocational center and a new high school at New Hope, as well as other projects. In that referendum, 51.87 of percent supported borrowing. Bond issues require a 60 percent supermajority for passage, however.
The Lowndes County board voted 3-2 to seek another vote.
Lowndes County Circuit Clerk Haley Salazar tells The Dispatch (http://bit.ly/1wZU2PN ) that the vote will cost about $20,000. She says the county plans to use paper ballots to cut costs.
