BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) — A federal investigation has found no discrimination against English-language learners in Beaufort County schools.
But the Beaufort Gazette reported (http://bit.ly/1pvoW2n ) that the U.S. Education Department said the school district's new method of screening potential volunteers could be improved.
Superintendent Jeff Moss said there have been several instances of poor communications with parents trying to enroll their students.
But Moss said information he's gotten from federal investigators indicates that the school district is doing quite a bit to help students in the English for Speakers of Other Languages program.
The Education Department's Office for Civil Rights has visited the district office and several schools in the past week to gather information for the investigation.
Moss said the school district has not yet received an official report from the U.S. Education Department.
