COUER D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — A former Idaho state trooper faces up to five years in jail after he was convicted of a variety of charges, including stealing 15,000 rounds of ammunition from the state police.
Daniel Charles Howard entered guilty pleas on several charges Friday and Alford pleas on others after reaching a deal with prosecutors that resulted in several charges against him being dropped. In the Alford pleas, Howard acknowledged there was enough evidence to convict him without admitting guilt.
Howard was accused of using a fake name in a motorcycle title application and of possessing a white-tailed deer without a tag. He also was accused of stalking a neighbor and damaging his property.
The Spokesman-Review reports (http://bit.ly/1tnExw2 ) that Howard resigned this month after 19 years on the force. His attorney says he'll request probation instead of jail time.
