SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — About a dozen members of several gun-control groups have delivered a petition to Gov. Gary Herbert that protests state laws barring universities from keeping guns off their campuses.
The Deseret News reports (http://bit.ly/1FbzC9U the petition with 20,000 names was delivered to Herbert's office at the Utah State Capitol on Friday.
The petition follows the cancellation last month of a speech by feminist speaker Anita Sarkeesian at Utah State University.
Sarkeesian canceled her speech after learning the school would allow concealed firearms despite an anonymous threat against her.
Chelsi Archibald with the group MomsRising.org says it's wrong that schools can stop food from being brought into assemblies but not guns.
Archibald also says the Second Amendment right to bear arms should not trump the First Amendment right to free speech.
