PHOENIX (AP) — The federal Drug Enforcement Administration is launching a new tip line they hope citizens will use to turn in people they suspect are involved in illegal prescription drug activity.
The internet-based tip service allows anyone with a cell phone to quickly send an anonymous text message to a DEA agent. The idea is part of the agency's efforts to stop the diversion of narcotic pain medications from legitimate uses.
The special agent in charge of the DEA's Arizona operations, Doug Coleman, says the non-medical use of prescription pain medication has contributed to the sharp increase in heroin trafficking and use.
To send a tip via text message, enter TIP411 in the "to" field, and the keyword "TIPRX" in the text field, followed by the tip. The sender remains anonymous.
