DEP SECRETARY, TOP AGENCY ATTORNEY RESIGN IN PORNO EMAIL SCANDAL
Environmental Protection Secretary Christopher Abruzzo and Glenn Parno, a top lawyer in the agency, resigned just as the attorney general's office was releasing copies of their email messages to the governor's office and news organizations.
FEDS WILL SEEK PENALTY IN PRISON GUARD'S KILLING
Inmate Jessie Con-ui is charged with first-degree murder in the February 2013 stabbing death of Eric Williams at the Canaan federal prison in Waymart. Federal prosecutors say death is justified because Con-ui has an extensive history of violence, including a 2002 murder conviction, and the attack on Williams was premeditated and targeted a federal public servant.
PHILADELPHIA ARCHDIOCESES SELLING LAND FOR $56 MILLION
The diocese says most of the money from selling some 700 acres in the Philadelphia suburbs and Lehigh Valley will go toward a parish trust and loan fund. About $3.7 million will go to the priests' pension fund.

The deadline to opt out is Oct. 14, although some retired players want a delay until after a final court review of the settlement in November.
CAROL BURNETT TO BE HONORED BY PENNSYLVANIA'S JIMMY STEWART MUSEUM
Burnett will receive the museum's Harvey Award at a fundraiser for the James M. Steward Museum Foundation on Friday night. The award is named for the 1950 film in which Stewart befriends an invisible rabbit. Burnett has called Stewart her "idol" and he appeared on the final episode of "The Carol Burnett Show" as a surprise guest in 1978. He died in 1997.
